Organizing Computer Files and Folders

If you have a computer, chances are you have a lot of files on it. How do you keep

them organized? Today I will share my thoughts on a system that I use and like for

organizing computer files and folders. It’s extremely easy and fairly quick to start.

First, let’s start with the folders. The folders on a computer system are perfect to

categorize your files. If you don’t already have your files divided by category, then

start by creating new folders with different category types. Perhaps you need a work

folder to keep everything pertaining to work in. You may want to keep a recipe

folder to keep any recipes you find online. It’s very important when creating your

folders to give them appropriate names. Don’t use initials or nicknames, simply

because doing so will make searching for files more difficult down the road.

The next thing you want to do is tackle those files. Open up each and every one of

the files you already have. Look through them and start de-cluttering! If there are

old, unused files on your computer go ahead and delete them. Now you can begin

sorting your files into the appropriate folder. If you find a document that doesn’t fit

into any of your categories, don’t hesitate to create a new folder that will fit. Don’t

stick a file into a folder that it doesn’t belong in! Just like the folders, make sure your

documents and files have appropriate names. You need to be able to look at a

document name and from that name know exactly what that document contains.

Now, what about those files that you don’t feel you can delete yet, but you don’t really use on a regular basis?  You can create a folder specifically for those types of files, and this will really help to keep your regular files “thinner”, or more clean.

Anytime you create a new file, simply put it into the appropriate category, and your

computer files will stay nice and organized! What’d I tell you? Easy.
