Let’s Get Organized – Children’s Chores

a success story …

Angie Hobson and her family

Dear Sister Ricks,

I have attended several of your classes at BYUI Education Week and have learned from some of your books.  I wanted to thank you for all that you taught me.

I am a stay at home mom with 4 awesome kids, a ten year old son and three daughters 9, 6, and 2.   Before the school year started, I set up jobs for them to do before they go to school.  Each one has as many jobs as they are old.  I put a lot of thought into there jobs so that I wouldn’t have them fighting over the vacuum or other cleaning supplies.  I also tried to set up their jobs so that if they have the Windex out they clean several things with it, or they put away their clothes the morning after my laundry day, etc.  I check their jobs before they are allowed to go to school.

Well, last week I pulled a muscle in my back and was down for a few days.  At the end of the week, I looked around my house and was amazed.  My front rooms had been vacuumed  twice that week, the bathrooms were clean, the dishes were clean and put away, their bedrooms were clean and vacuumed.  I had not done any of it.  It was awesome.  It is helping so much to have the kids pitching in everyday.  When the kids go to school the house looks good and now I have time to do the things that I never had time to get to before this routine.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with me.  It has made a difference in this family.

Sincerely,

~Angie Hobson
